Responsibilities
Art therapists use art as a means of helping their clients heal from emotional burdens, relax their minds, and express their deep-seated thoughts.
They also are trained to listen to the needs and feelings of their client in a more traditional sense.
They work full-time, around 40 hours per week, and usually have scheduled appointments.
Required Training
Art therapists need a master's degree in either counseling or art therapy. This must be from a school authorized by the AATA (American Art Therapy Association).
They'll need a supervised 600-hour internship at a clinic and 100 hours of a practical course
Best Programs
University of Notre Dame and Loyola are some of the best programs, however there are many AATA-certified schools scattered throughout the country.
There are no recognized top programs for this career, with the best ones largely being aligned with the quality of the school in general.
